We had booked with Simon at Guangdong after reading hostel reviews online. We were aware of the building and the "characters" in the vicinity before we went to Kowloon from NZ. Security officers are on the ground floor, in charge of all lifts and are working at all hours. The lifts have cameras visible to all waiting for their turn. Yes this sounds intimidating but we felt secure always. Simon is on the fifth floor of this building with two separate lots of rooms. We had our security swipe card to enter the main entrance plus our room. Small rooms but very clean and Simon available 24 hours to help in any way he can. Room serviced every day and clean towels also. TV, air conditioner, fan, hot water at all times for showers. Clean drinking water available in foyer. It is close to many interesting places and we enjoyed our stay. Thank you Simon
The Chungking Mansions is an experience in itself, for those who are a little bit adventurous. Simon is an excellent owner who is attentive and light hearted, he didn't even charge for the mistake I made with booking the wrong day and still continued to hold my reservation for the next day. Shoppping/food/sights in Hong Kong are fairly dispersed anyway so location isn't really an issue. Rooms are tidy and clean and air-con works well. Expect small rooms and bathrooms as this HK
The hostel itself was very clean. Simon was a very good host, too. However, the building where the hostel was seems to be so crowded. There are so many Indians in the lobby and no offense, but they smell too strong. Moreover, the lift is always too crowded. Nonetheless, I really enjoyed my stay because our room is always spotless clean, the drinking water is free, i have my own private toilet and bathroom and internet and telephone access.
The accommodation was very clean and all services were provided such as hot water, internet access, air conditioner, Simon was very helpful and very caring. The exterior of the property can put off a few people as I was but once inside its fine
The place is a haven in what can otherwise be an intimidating building. Simon was very helpful and equipped the rooms with everything you'd need. Location on the fifth floor was excellent, especially since during our stay the elevator wasn't working. The location is EXCELLENT... walking distance to the main interest points in Kowloon, and just minutes from the ferry to Central.
